Friday evenings will feature evening tours offered at Southdown Plantation House. In addition to the traditional tour of the manor, Autumn and Christmas will be depicted through décor and the stories presented at each tour.
Groups of up to 25 people will be led through the house for an hour-long tour by guides dressed in period clothing holding battery operated candles and the rooms dimly lit with ambient lighting to accentuate the architecture, furnishings and exhibits.
“We are very excited to expand our tours and hours for this special project,” Executive Director, Rachel Cherry said. “If it is as well received as I think it will be, we will continue to do tours during the months we have early sunsets. It would be difficult to host these candlelight tours during the summer with the sun staying up for so long.”
Tour guides will represent members of the Minor family who lived at Southdown between 1858 and 1920. Certain portions of the tour will be scripted so as to relate to the other guides who will be within the house during the tour.
The tours will begin at 6:30 p.m. with tickets $10 per person for adults only. Reservations are required and we recommend you make your reservations early by calling 985-851-0154 or e-mailing us at
