The Terrebonne Historical and Cultural Society has been selected to participate in The Richard West Freeman Endowment Challenge, where the organization matches one dollar for every two dollars raised by THACS for an endowment with the Greater New Orleans Fund.
THACS will need to raise $10,000 by May 2012 in order to receive the $5000 from the Freeman Challenge organization.
In an effort to raise the money, THACS will hold a series of fundraising events, as well as appeal to donors and the community. Southdown Plantation’s Executive Director Katie LeCompte said the endowment is a way to ensure long-term financial stability for the organization and museum.
“We are extremely honored and excited to be a part of the Challenge program,” LeCompte said. “Creating an endowment will provide a predictable source of income for generations to come.”
Saints Sunday & 5K, the first fundraising event for the program, will be Sunday, Oct. 16. It will include a kids’ half mile race, a 5K race, live music, food, drinks, and broadcasting of the Saints vs. Tampa Bay game.
